Upon entering Pohick Bay Park, you will need to show proof of residency. This fun, pirate-themed place is great for families with children up to age 10. Admission: 18/person Children ages 3 & under are free with a paid adult. The pool is available for walk-in swimmers and is taking reservations for pool parties. The new & improved Pirate’s Cove is open Labor Day through Memorial Day. they hide «treasure» in the sand that the kids can turn in for prizes. It would be nice if the baby pool was a zero-entry one like at Upton Hill, but oh well… The baby pool also has at least 2 shade umbrellas (Great Waves only has 1) and the sandbox is right next door so if 1 kid wants to go there but 1 kid wants to stay in the pool, you can keep an eye on them both without having to actually leave the pool area. There is also disc golf, fishing, camping, hiking trails, and weekend paddle boat rentals. Beyond Pirate’s Cove, meander around Pohick Bay Park where you can play a round of mini golf at Treasure Island, enjoy the playground, and have a picnic by the water. The fenced in baby pool has its own slide, which is great because even the small ones like my 2 year old can go down it without giving me a heart attack. At 12:30 pm on a Saturday, Pirate’s Cove was at max capacity and turning people away. I have small children so the main pool has slides and stuff that they like and while still being shallow. Great Waves is a little too big and Upton Hill a little too small, but Pirate’s Cove is just right.
